Artist: Faint Carrier
Faint Carrier — a solo project by fictional musician Ewan Hale. The title translates to «weak carrier.» The carrier is the basic radio signal that allows a communication station to know that a distant device is still active. A faint carrier means the device is very far away, but still in contact. This title already embeds the album’s main idea.
Artist’s Legend
Eugene grew up in a small coastal town in northern Scotland. As a child, he saw an image of Earth captured by Voyager in 1990 on television, and he remembered that the entire planet was less than a single pixel.
Later, he became a night operator at the Kelda Point deep space communication station. His job was to spend hours listening to the static of the airwaves, waiting for faint signals from distant spacecraft.
One night, the expected signal arrived late. To avoid the silence, Eugene turned on the old keyboard synthesizer in the control room and began reading his notes quietly over the noise. This is how the first tracks came to be: spoken word, worn-out keys, a guitar with long reverb, and tape hiss.
Album History
The album I Haven’t Left Yet was recorded there, in the empty server room, between night shifts. Yuan dedicated it to Voyager 1. The occasion is a real event: on November 18, 2026, Voyager 1 will become the first human-made object to be one light-day away from Earth. The signal from it now takes a full day to reach us, and the question and answer take two days.
