A series of three porcelain plates, representing three ways to observe a marvel. Under the exhibition’s motto, «Simple Fantasy,» I am not proposing epic fantasy, but rather its more subdued variant: magical realism, in which the ordinary slightly deviates from familiar laws, becoming not frightening, but unusual and wondrous.
Three techniques—underglaze, overglaze, and sgraffito—sound like three voices, three ways to tell how the simple becomes incredible.
