The project showcases plates I sculpted and painted during my internship in the porcelain painting workshop. I created five pieces in total, each with its own unique theme.
«TOADS, ” red clay, sgraffito
It was necessary to sculpt a plate from red clay, then cover it with an engobe, and create a geometric ornament featuring animals in the Nasca Indian style using the sgraffito technique.

Stages of Work
The combination of green engobe and red clay reminded me of a swamp, so on the plate, I depicted two frogs hunting a dragonfly.

«ITALIAN PLATE, ” underglaze painting, homage
The assignment was a self-portrait in the style of Italian maiolica, accompanied by a personal message, created on a white clay plate that I had prepared in advance.
Project Stages
The rim of the plate is decorated with traditional patterns, and I depicted myself together with my cat—whom I rarely get to see, but each encounter brings me tranquility. This is why the inscription reads: «I am mentally stable again.»
White clay, orange pigment BY341 and blue pigment BK 44, acrylic varnish, glaze
«BOYARSHNIK,» overglaze painting
The goal was to outline a finished plate in the style of a biological atlas, using a steel pen and black overglaze paint, and then add color elements with a brush.
Stages of Work
In the center of the plate, I arranged the flowers and hawthorn berries, and along the edge, I added cross-section elements with Latin captions to lend the image a more scientific tone.
Overglaze paints: black, green, yellow, watercolor medium, INCO IC 16 red pigment, glaze
«MAN’S BEST FRIEND, ” a Dutch example
It was necessary to execute an imitation of a 16th-century Dutch tile, while independently conceiving a modern central theme.
I found it amusing to reinterpret the well-known saying, «A dog is man’s best friend, ” which is how the scene featuring a bitten leg was born.
Overglaze blue paint, watercolor medium
«THURSDAY, ” painting on white enamel
It was necessary to sculpt a plate from red clay, cover it with white glaze after firing, and paint it with pigments.
The shape of the plate reminded me of a herring, so the decoration has a fish theme, but instead of real animals, I depicted two mermaids with a funny inscription.
