Why do musicians wear masks and transform into monsters?

The study included nine performers: Alice Cooper, David Bowie, KISS, Michael Jackson, Slipknot, Ghost, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and The Weeknd.
Their representations are structured differently: in some instances, the monster is a character in a show, while in others, it serves to illustrate fear, feelings of alienation, or the pressure of public life.
Each artist has their own chapter on the website. In it, I explain the meaning of the image, show how it was visually created, and analyze its connection to the music.
The study contains a total of 45 images; they can be viewed in detail and sources accessed.
