It’s a five-days intensive workshop for intermediate and advanced graphic designers. It’s duration may vary from 24 to 40 hours. In the final presentation we all come up with a project of a typographic visual identity for a personal brand.
To warm up we start with a crazy alphabet — each of the participants sketches weird, foolish, strange letterforms. Minimum five variants for each letter of the latin alphabet. It gives a feeling of plasticity and expressive character of lettering art.
On the second stage of the first day warming up workshop we work with proto-logotypes, adding certain meanings to letterforms. Those may be whatever meanings associated with eah letter, such as A for Agriculture, B for Break, C for Climate, and up to Z for Zebra. This requires already a combination of plasticity and content expressed in a simple letterform.
And finally we approach to development of a personal monogram, consisting of the two (three) initial letters of a name and surname of each participant.
In these monograms we use the skills obtained during the first part of a workshop. Letterforms should bear a meaning and expression of the personal brand and its character.
And as a final stage of the project a basic set of visual identity is developed. Here are some of the examples of the projects developed by a group of my students at HIT (Holon Institute of Technology) in 2025.
