About the category

Video games are the youngest and perhaps most effective form of communication known to mankind. Today’s gamers do not play solely for entertainment, just as book readers and film viewers of the past did not only seek to entertain themselves. With advancements in technology and the rising expectations of the audience, the key aspect of video game communication becomes evident: game art and visuals.

The variety of modern video games is no longer restricted to fantasy and generic science fiction, and as a result, game art is no longer limits itself to depictions of elven princesses or battle robots. While the Competition does not exclude more or less conventional visual approaches, we are particularly excited by avant-garde and innovative concepts in game art that align with digital art, video art, and auteur design.

Projects capable of solving the main tasks that visual content in the interactive format of video games solves: making an impression, defining the setting, and showing the events taking place in this virtual space as spectacularly as possible are invited for participation in the Game Art Competiton.

Terms and conditions

Individual or team projects, including coursework or diploma projects, are accepted. University students or design courses attendants who have completed their studies no more than a year ago can participate. Works in Russian and English are considered.

The style of your project is not limited to anything: we expect works with a camera from first or third-person perspectives, including side view or top view, done in low/mid-poly or photorealistic visuals. The space in which the gameplay takes place can be open or enclosed, and the gameplay itself can be simple or complex. However, the originality of the concept, the extent to which it is implemented, and the overall completeness of the work remain our main priority in evaluating your submission.

To participate in the competition, please make sure to familiarize yourself with the methodological recommendations for the category.
