About the competition

As technology continues to evolve, the manner in which audiences engage with content is also changing. Notably, graphic narratives are undergoing significant transformations in response to these shifts. Initially, the Internet was used to facilitate access to paper-based content, but it has now evolved into a platform for authors to create visual media projects that were previously impossible using traditional methods.

These projects are uniquely tied to the technology on which they are developed, allowing for storytelling experiences that were once inconceivable.

Requirements

Authors have the freedom to choose their own topics, as we are open to both fiction and non-fiction projects covering a diverse array of subjects. It is essential that these projects push the boundaries of the illustrative medium by incorporating a variety of digital technologies, media platforms, or formats.

This could include gif comics, animated illustrations, multimedia sites featuring video and audio elements, webtoons, or graphic narratives utilizing the concept of the «infinite canvas”— all showcasing the author’s willingness to break away from traditional paper-based formats and demonstrate their proficiency in new media.

The primary project should be presented as a longread on hsedesign.ru, spanning from 6 to 12 sheets with example pages, and may also include references to third-party resources such as readymag, video platforms, or comic hosting sites where the jury can view the project in its entirety.

Prospective participants are encouraged to review the methodological recommendations specific to each nomination category before entering the competition.
