About the competition
HSE POSTER LAB is announcing a poster competition as part of the «Dostoevsky» festival that will take place in Zaraysk on July 20 and 21. The festival is dedicated to Fyodor Mikhailovich’s deep and versatile personality. He spent his childhood in the Darovoe estate near Zaraysk, and judging by his recollections, he experienced true happiness there. The festival’s goal is to describe Dostoevsky’s personality not only from the point of view of his contribution to the world’s culture, but also from the human side: study him as a son, a husband and a father. The exhibition of thematic posters will be presented on the main pedestrian streets of the city, where a gastronomic fair, a concert, a book festival and street theatre performances will also take place. The art director of the festival is the People’s Artist of Russia, the art director of the «State Theater of Nations» Evgeny Mironov. The program director is the deputy art director of the «State Theater of Nations and a theatre critic Oksana Efremenko. The festival is organised by the Government of the Moscow Region and co-organized by the „Culture of Consumption“ company.

Submission requirements
Artworks made in the posters genre are accepted for this nomination. Contestants can reflect on the writer’s unique personality, his enormous impact on the world’s culture or turn to Fyodor Mikhailovich’s biography, his life journey during different stages of his work.
To participate in the competition, make sure to follow the Guidelines for the nomination.
The main requirement is that the contestants have to integrate one of the following Fyodor Dostoevsky’s quotes in their posters:
- One has to love life more than the meaning of it. - Happiness is not in happiness itself, it is found in achieving it. - To give up reading books means to give up thinking. - Having wisdom is not enough to act wisely. - I want to talk to at least one person about everything, as if I were talking to myself. - It’s amazing what a single ray of sunshine can do to a person’s soul! - Without purpose, life is suffocating. - Having children next to you heals your soul. If one wants to contribute to the world, he can do good even if his hands are tied. - Beauty will save the world. - Grown-ups do not know that a child can give exceedingly good advice even in the most difficult case. - Do not clog your memory with resentment, otherwise there will be no space left for precious moments. - A man who knows how to hug is a good man.

Jury
- Yuri Gulitov — heads the jury, he is a teacher at HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL, head of the HSE POSTER LAB unit and a graphic designer. He used to be the art director of the «Kommersant» newspaper and the head of the «MS Advertising» advertising agency. He is the winner of numerous professional competitions and a participant in international and russian exhibitions. - Alexander Alexeev — is the head of the «Art of Advertising '' department, curator of the „Design and Promotion of Digital Product“ direction at the HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL. He is a creative director, a graphic artist, the President of the Art Directors Club of Russia (ADCR), and the creator and creative director of backinblack.pro. - Stepan Lukyanov — is the stage designer of the festival, the art director of the „Stanislavsky“ Electrotheatre and the „Cinephantom“ film club. - Boris Nogachev — is the art director of the festival. - Kirill Mayevsky — is the executive director of the „AD Marginem“ publishing house, and is the curator of the festival’s literary program.
- Yuri Surkov — is the leader of the variety course in the «Typography and Book Design» direction at the HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL. He is a graphic designer, an artist, a participant and multiple winner of Russian and international biennales, exhibitions and professional competitions in various fields of graphic design. - Vitaly Stavitsky — is a designer who is the President of the Union of designers of Russia. - Dmitry Kharshak — is the dean of HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL in Saint Petersburg. He is a graphic artist and the founder and chief editor of the «Proektor» magazine. - Andrey Kulagin — is a lecturer in Communication Design at HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL. He is a graphic artist and the artistic director of the «Postgooddesign» design workshop.
Prizes
1st place — 50,000 RUB 2nd place — 30,000 RUB 3rd place — 20,000 RUB
The best works will be presented at the «Dostoevsky» festival in Zaraysk, one of the brightest and most emotional events of this summer. The posters will take part in a large-scale exhibition on the central streets of the city.
